Oil in Water: Counting volume and tracking flow

As oil continues to gush into the Gulf of Mexico, URI faculty have continued to share their related expertise with government officials, media, and the general public worldwide. Most recently, Oceanograpy Professor Peter Cornillon worked with one team of scientists appointed by the government to estimate the size of the oil leak using remote sensing and satellite imagery. His comments about the study appeared in The Washington Post, CBS, MSNBC, and numerous radio stations nationwide. Ocean Engineering Professor Malcolm Spaulding has been called on to describe the current potential path for the growing oil slick, and Emeritus Professor Paul Hargraves wrote an opinion piece entitled Spill, Baby, Spill: poison on the coast for TCMPalm.
