Expect Fewer Ticks

Regional news media have been spreading the good news. Thomas Mather, director of URI’s Center for Vector-Borne Disease says his research shows there are about 30 percent fewer deer ticks this year and therefore cases of Lyme disease should be reduced as well. This news was bolstered by the announcement that Sen. Jack Reed helped to secure $1.3 million in federal funding for Mather to better understand and prevent tick bites. News about the grant and his recent findings have been carried by the Providence Journal, numerous broadcast outlets including Eyewitness News, Turn to 10, and the Associated Press article ran in the Boston Herald, and the Norwich Bulletin among others.
