Harvesting solar energy from pavement

We all know how hot the roadways get in the summer when the sun is shining brightly, but leave it to a team of URI researchers to figure out several ways to harvest that solar energy to power streetlights and road signs, melt ice on bridges, and provide hot water to offices. Their research has generated attention from media around the world, including the Philadelphia Inquirer, Yahoo News, International Business Times, United Press International, Channel 12, Electronics News, Nanotechnology News, and many more. Dozens of bloggers have also written about it, from Brighter Energy and Renewable Power News to Cooler Planet, Green Optimist and Smarter Technology. The URI news release about the research can be found here.
