Anthropologist refutes long-held theory

Just a year after arriving on campus, Assistant Professor of Anthropology Holly Dunsworth has made big news with her research refuting a long-held theory about why human pregnancies last just nine months. Her research suggests that it has more to do with the mother's metabolism rather than the size of the birth canal.  It is a topic that has resonated with the media around the world.  The story has been reported by National Public Radio, SmithsonianFox News, Scientific American, the Huffington Post, Yahoo News, the International Business Times, Science Daily, Providence JournalNorth County Times, more than a dozen news outlets in Spain, and even more in Germany, as well as in Austria, China and elsewhere.  The URI press release about the research can be found here.
