New VP for research

The appointment of Gerald Sonnenfeld as the new vice president for research and economic development was reported locally by the Providence Journal and Providence Business News, and an Associated Press version of the story appeared widely in the Carolinas, from which he comes to URI. Among those reporting on the appointment in that area were the Lexington Dispatch, Hilton Head Island Packet, Charlotte Observer, Myrtle Beach News, Fort Mills Times, and others. Census of marine invasive species

A New England-wide effort to monitor the coastline for invasive species included several URI faculty and students.  It also generated widespread media attention in the communities where the scientists visited, including in the New Bedford Standard Times, Newport Daily News, and Providence Journal, all of which featured graduate student Niels Hobbs.
