Ryan Institute for Neuroscience

Today's announcement of the $15 million donation by Tom and Cathy Ryan to establish the George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience generated immediate media attention. Those covering the story include the Providence Journal, Providence Business News, Rhode Island Public Radio, Rhode Island Small Business Journal, Channel 12, Channel 6Boston Business Journal, Narragansett Patch, WPRO radio and the Associated Press, whose story appeared on the website of the Boston GlobeSan Francisco Chronicle, Seymour TribuneChannel 10 and others. STAC, Business Engagement, URI Theatre and more

STAC appointments: The Providence Business News and Associated Press reported on Nov. 12 that URI Vice President for Research and Economic Development Gerald Sonnenfeld was named by Governor Chafee to co-chair the state Science and Technology Advisory Council.

Indonesian experts: An agreement between URI and Indonesian officials to send Indonesian experts to study fisheries at URI was reported Nov. 13 by the Providence Journal, Westerly Sun, and the Albany Times Union (via the Associated Press).

Veteran's Day, Technology and Amgen Grant

  • Veteran's Day. RI Public Radio's Elizabeth Harrison interviewed URI junior Don Ruggeri, on Monday, Nov. 11, for a story about Veterans now in college. Having served in the U.S. Marines for five years (deployed to Iraq), Don is one of several hundred URI student veterans working with the URI Providence Veterans Office. One of the first two students to receive the William J. Cummings Veterans Armed Forces Endowed Scholarship, Don is now planning to pursue his dream of becoming a veterinarian.
