Economic update

Professor Leonard Lardaro's monthly economic analysis, the Current Conditions Index, has again received attention from the local media and beyond.  It was reported this week by the Providence Journal, Providence Business News, and Associated Press, whose story was picked up by the Kansas City Star, Hilton Head PacketThe State (South Carolina) and elsewhere.  The URI news release about the index can be found here.

Starfish wasting disease

Media outlets around the globe continue to report on the starfish wasting disease that was first reported in July when a URI student discovered diseased starfish along the New England coast.  A similar disease has subsequently been found on the West Coast. The most recent news report appeared in the Washington Post on Nov. 22 and reprinted on Nov. 26 in the Bangor Daily News, Sydney Morning Herald, Canberra Times, Melbourne Age, Brisbane Times, Borneo BulletinVirginia News-Pilot and elsewhere. Digital Literacy, Ryan Institute, guns

Professor Renee Hobbs, director of the Harrington School of Communication and Media, was featured in a front page story in the Providence Sunday Journal on Nov. 24 as a "champion of digital literacy."  The lengthy story highlights her efforts to help students develop "the ability to critically evaluate and communicate information and ideas using digital technology."

The new George & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscience received additional visibility this week from a feature story and editorial in the Providence Business News on Nov. 25. and a news report in the Nov. 22 edition of the North Kingstown Standard Times. Read about earlier coverage here.
