Engineering building proposal
The College of Engineering's proposed construction of a new building and a $2 million pledge to the project by Toray Plastics received considerable media attention this week. The Providence Journal featured the project in a front page story on Feb. 26 and followed up on Feb. 27 with a story about a State House hearing about the proposal. The Providence Business News and Channel 10 reported on the Toray gift, as did several plastics industry trade publications, including Plastics Today, Plastics News, Flexible Packaging, and Label and Narrow Web. The Coastal Institute and Graduate School of Oceanography, among others, launched a website to explain the effects of climate change in Rhode Island and actions that can be taken to mitigate its impact. A press conference to announce the site generated attention in the Providence Journal, Rhode Island Public Radio, WPRO radio, Providence Business News, Channel 6, Warwick Beacon, Providence Phoenix, Jamestown Press, Narragansett Times and the Associated Press, whose story was featured on the Boston Globe, Greenfield Reporter, Channel 10, Channel 12 and others.
